How to Choose the Best Instagram Audit Tool
When selecting an Instagram audit tool, it is important to be discerning. Taking the time to evaluate your options in full will help ensure that you make the right decision for your needs.
Here are the main factors to consider before choosing an Instagram audit tool:
- Ease of Use: The tool should be user-friendly and easy to navigate, so you can quickly access the information you need and take action. Before committing to any IG audit tool, look for user reviews online to get an idea of the overall user experience.
- Key Metrics Covered: Some tools offer basic metrics such as follower growth or engagement rates, while others provide in-depth insights into individual user profiles and content performance. Knowing which types of metrics are most important to you will help narrow down your tool choices significantly.
- Reporting Capabilities: Will you be using the tool yourself or with other team members? Are there any specific features like reporting templates that help make it easier to interpret and use the data? Consider the reporting capabilities that you need, and then make a choice.
- Price: The cost of the tool is an important deciding factor, especially if you are a small business or just starting out. Look for a tool that offers good value for money and fits within your budget.
In some cases, you may find that a less expensive option provides all the features you need, while at other times it may be worth it to pay a bit more for additional functionality. - Customer Support: Good customer support is essential in case you encounter any issues or need help using the tool. Check for the availability of support options like email, phone, or live chat.
- Free Trial/Demo: Having a free trial or demo lets you get hands-on experience with the product before making any commitments. It will help you evaluate if the software solution will meet your needs.
Ultimately, the best Instagram audit tool will give accurate and up-to-date insights into your performance while providing a streamlined user experience.
Which Are the Best Instagram Audit Tools Out There?
When it comes to IG audits, the best option for you will depend on your overall requirements and budget. In this list, I’ve covered IG audit tools across the spectrum – basic to advanced.
Based on what you need, take your pick from the best IG audit tools listed below:
1. HypeAuditor – Best Tool for Comprehensive Free IG Audits
HypeAuditor’s free Instagram audit tool is great to ascertain the audience quality and engagement rate for any Instagram profile within seconds.
I wanted to check the results for a popular celebrity Instagram account, so I did a quick search for “Emma Watson” on HypeAuditor.
The platform allows you to check influencer profiles on Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Twitch, Twitter, and Snapchat. For this example, I’ve chosen only Instagram.
In the free version, you can check the quality of followers, engagement rate, and the categories for which the influencer creates posts.
If you’re thinking of reaching out to an influencer for a marketing campaign, the free version has enough information for you to ascertain if an influencer is genuine or not.
If you click on the “Engagement” option from the left, you can see the average number of likes and comments for the profile.
Looking at this, you can get an idea of the engagement you can get on sponsored posts.
But before you reach out, there’s always the question of how much to pay the influencer or what their charges are. The “Value” option can help you get an idea of the estimated price for a sponsored post or Story.
To calculate this number, HypeAuditor uses an advanced machine-learning model that looks at market value, followers, engagement, and country.
Of course, the actual price may be different based on the campaign requirements. But getting an estimate can help you craft an enticing proposal.
For more campaign research, you can check other related influencers in the niche using the “Similar Accounts” tab.
In this section, you’ll find IG accounts that have a similar demographic and follower count to the analyzed influencer.
I think HypeAuditor’s free version can be a good starting point for your influencer marketing research. But if you’re investing thousands of dollars into your influencer campaign, you should consider the paid versions.
Their paid version has a lot more in-depth information related to audience location, age, gender, brand mentions, fake followers, and engagement authenticity.
Note: For more information, you can read my detailed HypeAuditor review.

2. Emplifi
Emplifi, formerly popular as Socialbakers, is an all-in-one social media marketing platform. While it has analytics for Facebook and Twitter as well, I will focus on its Instagram analytics features for this post.
To test it out, I signed up for their free trial.
The process is quick – it only took me a couple of minutes. The first step is to choose whether you want a Business or an Individual account.
I chose the former.
Next, you can choose the type of industry that you work in. You can choose up to two industries from the given options. If you don’t find anything relevant, go for the “Other” option.
I’ve chosen “Advertising and Marketing Agencies” from the given list.
Once you’re done with these two steps, Emplifi gives you access to your free account. The Overview section already has two IG accounts added – Chanel and Gucci’s IG handles.
From this section, you can check the total followers, total change in followers, relative change in followers, the sum of posts, and more.
That’s a sample listing.
I wanted to audit another IG account, so I click on the “Add a New Profile” option on the bottom left of the screen.
You can either connect your own IG profiles, ad accounts, public accounts, or check web analytics. As I did with HypeAuditor, I checked out the key metrics for a public IG profile on Emplifi that has a massive following.
I know Addison Rae has one of the most followed accounts on TikTok and to find out how her IG profile measured up. So, I typed in her IG username in the search bar and the tool gave me suggestions from different social media networks.
Here’s a tiny issue I faced: When I typed her IG username, I got suggestions of her profile from other social networks. Even after scrolling, I couldn’t find her IG profile in the list.
I tried it a few times, but still couldn’t find her Instagram profile. Finally, I copied her IG profile URL into the search bar and found it in the suggestions section.
Once I added her profile to my list, I could check her IG profile on my Emplifi dashboard.
Emplifi’s IG profile overview shows the total followers and the change in followers in the first section. You can even check the change in followers on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis here.
Since her account is very popular, you’ll find a lot of activity going on in a day. I like the visual representation because it is neat and easy to understand.
There is also a download option which makes it easy if you want to create reports.
When you scroll down, you can check the posting frequency of any IG profile. What I like about it is that there is a lot of relevant information presented concisely.
You can check the total number of posts that an influencer has posted for a given time range. In the last 30 days, Addison added two profile posts in the first week of January 2023.
You can even change the time frame and get data for up to the last 365 days. If you are evaluating an influencer, this is a good way to check if they post consistently on their profile.
At a quick glance, you can find out which type of content a particular influencer creates the most. As you can see, Addison Rae creates a lot of Carousel posts on Instagram.
Once you’ve shortlisted influencers for your campaign, this section can help you analyze their content strategy. You can even check the number of posts for each content type along with the percentage of shares.
Furthermore, the Engagement Overview shows the maximum, minimum, and average interactions per post. You can check these on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
To get an idea of how an influencer’s profile has grown over a period of time, you can check the “Evolution of Interactions” section.
If there are sudden spikes in interactions, it could mean that their post has gone viral. There is also a possibility that a lot of bots or fake followers might have commented on their post.
I like that they have included average interactions per day/week/month. This way you can assess the baseline and check for any sudden inconsistencies.
In the next section, you get to see a breakdown of the interactions into likes and comments. You can also select the time range for which you want to see the data.
For influencers who have a massive following, you might also want to check the interaction per 1000 followers to get a better idea of their engagement rate.
Just like the previous graphs, you can get a daily, weekly, and monthly view of the given data. If you want, you can even specify a time range for it.
The last section is an interesting one. Emplifi analyzes the page content and predicts the performance of a post compared to other posts on the page.
I am not sure if this data is fully reliable, but again it can help you decide
As a part of their Social Marketing Cloud, they also have a range of other complementary tools. You can use the Emplifi Social Marketing Cloud to listen in on social conversations and schedule posts across different social platforms.
With its rich functionality, this platform is for those who are looking for an all-round social media audit and management solution. It is ideal for small and medium-sized businesses as well as enterprises.

For Instagram audits, SmartMetrics provides you with data on over 30 metrics about your Stories, posts, and account.
Some unique metrics that they provide are Stories watched by content type, Stories impressions by hours, and hour-by-hour post statistics.

Additionally, the tools enable you to get insights into your followers’ age, gender, languages, and countries of followers. You can also check which days and time your followers are most active on Instagram.

4. trendHERO
trendHERO is a powerful audience analytics platform that helps brands and influencers to monitor, measure, and manage their audience performance. This platform is mainly focused on influencer marketing.
For Instagram influencer audits, trendHERO enables you to check follower quality, engagement rate, and ad post analytics.
Using this platform, you can also keep tabs on your competitors. You can check how often your competitors promote their brands and when they start their campaigns.
Their free version gives you access to one free report that shows limited metrics. For this example, I wanted to audit a famous Instagram profile – @mileycyrus.
At a quick glance, I can check her IG profile engagement rate and a quick look at her follower growth graph. Apart from that, all the other data is publicly available on Instagram, including the number of likes, saves, and comments.
The data seemed too limited. On closer inspection, I found that trendHERO offers a limited report only for IG accounts that have fewer than 10,000 followers.
Basically, you can only check macro-influencer profiles with the free tool. So, I decided to check the profile of Sacramento-based food bloggers, @twohungrybroads.
In a few seconds, I could check more IG data in the overview section. But again, it was limited to likes, comments, views, and publications.
The tool showed that it was still processing other audience analysis data. I waited for almost half an hour but didn’t get any report. Their platform says that the analysis can take up to 6 hours!
That’s a bit too much, right? If you are opting for an Instagram audit on trendHERO, make sure you have ample time on your hands.
However, their demo shows all the available metrics in the full report.
[Note: I did receive the full Instagram audit report from trendHero for @twohungrybroads over an hour later.]
